Sometimes I want an overview of the important news of the day, sometimes I just want to see what happened since my lunch break. That leads me to a pair of suggestions:

1 - A "What's new since my last visit" option/catagory , that lists stories/columns/seeds that have appeared since my last visit. Sure I was interested in the big story 2 hours ago, but it's old news now, I don't need to see that picture again.

2 - A way to identified new comments since an article was last visited. I like seeing the number of posts after my own in my history, but I don't want to remember that the last time I check there was 8 posts, so I don't have to worry the someone's commented about a comment I made.

If I want to see what I've missed, I should have to wade through "old news".

Also, as a bonus, personal messages would be fun, but probably not at all necessary, but the ability to ignore users would be a plus.

Personal messages would be extra static as far as I'm concerned, but the "New since my last visit would really be nice. It gets hard to sort through all the stuff I've already seen. Placing it on a separate tab/in a separate section would be appropriate though.

    A "New since my last visit" I think is a fantastic idea, and I also agree that "New comments" would make navigation and usability a lot easier.

    I also back you that Pms would be interesting, however I don't know if they'd be used enough.

      I love the "New since my last visit" feature, but what about those of us who never actually leave?

      I notice ya'll added a green arrow on new comments, I like that - but how about a gmail-style collapsable comment list? That way it makes it easy to see at a glance where I left off reading.
